During a live interview with Solita “Winnie” Monsod last March this year, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV assured that President Rodrigo Duterte will face impeachment in May.
“When is the earliest, in your thinking, that there will be a move to impeach Duterte?” Winnie asked Trillanes, to which he answered, “Probably, May.”
“Two months from now, there will be an impeachment proceeding? But it will not succeed,” said Winnie.
“We shall see,” said Trillanes.
Winnie was surprised with Trillanes’ answer but was even more surprised when she asked him about the latest date of the supposed impeachment.
Trillanes gave out his answer and Winnie replied, “It’s only two months from now, Senator Trillanes,” she said with a confused expression.
Meanwhile, the first week of May has already arrived and the president still hasn’t’ faced any impeachment proceedings.
In a radio segment of Erwin Tulfo, it was explained that the impeachment process involves the votes from the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The segment was recorded and uploaded by the YouTube account ‘chrizzyJ.’ In it, Tulfo interviewed House Speaker and Congressman of Davao, Pantaleon Alvarez.
“Ma-i-impeach po ba ang pangulo?” Tulfo asked him. “Let me ask this question for you sir, kayo po ‘yung speaker diyan.”
“Alam naman natin lahat na ‘yung impeachment ay kailangan ng…. hindi ko maintindihan kung saan mangangaling kasi right now, we have the super majority na sumusuporta sa pangulo,” Alvarez answered.
“So hindi ko po alam kung papanong computation ang ginagawa diyan.” He was referring to Trillanes’ statement on Duterte’s supposed impeachment.
What can you say about Trillanes and Alvarez’s insight? Do you think the president will face impeachment this year?
